Preventative Care

An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of treatment! We want to keep you and your mouth as healthy as possible. Besides having healthy habits at home, like brushing, flossing, and a healthy diet, routine preventive care is a must! In order to help you maintain your natural teeth for life, we offer comprehensive wellness visits to monitor your oral health, and professional cleanings to optimize your oral hygiene, as well as  these additional preventative care services…

Night Guards

Many people clinch or grind their teeth when sleeping, or during times of stress. A custom-fit night guard can protect the teeth and prevent wear and tear, which also prevents bigger issues in the future.  Without this protection, ongoing teeth grinding can lead to loss of enamel, broken teeth, and in severe cases even total loss of a tooth.

Some people’s teeth grinding causes pain, while others may be unaware it’s even happening. Some signs you may be a teeth-grinder are waking up with dull headaches, jaw soreness, face pain and fatigue.

Varnish

Fluoride Varnish is a quick, easy way to prevent tooth decay! The first line of defense against decay is enamel… the hard outer-layer of your teeth. You can strengthen your enamel with a fluoride varnish, making it harder for acids and bacteria to wear it down. Stronger enamel means less cavities, less sensitivity, and overall healthier teeth!

Children benefit greatly from fluoride varnish because their own enamel isn’t as hard as adults’, leaving them more susceptible to decay. Adults also benefit because as our gums recede, the roots of our teeth are more exposed and vulnerable as well. Strengthening these exposed areas supports your teeth as you age, keeping them strong and healthy.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are another great way to protect your smile! The deep grooves on the biting surfaces of teeth (especially your molars) can harbor bacteria. When we apply a very thin coating to fill those grooves, it changes the surface of the tooth so bacteria no longer has a safe place to hide. This quick, painless procedure gives you great protection against cavities and decay for years to come! It’s more cost-effective than restorations later-on, and it helps preserve the integrity of the tooth.

Sealants are suitable for children and adults alike, and may be applied shortly after the first molars have erupted through the gums, which is around age 6.
