CEREC Same-Day Crowns in Yukon, OK

When a tooth is too damaged for a filling but too valuable to lose, a dental crown is the answer. Crowns restore a tooth’s full strength, shape, and appearance by covering everything above the gumline with a durable, natural-looking cap. The tooth below stays intact, and you leave with a restoration that functions just like the original. For patients who need a crown and want it done without the hassle of two appointments and weeks of waiting, CEREC same-day crown technology makes that possible in a single visit.

At Reed Dental Care, same-day CEREC crowns are one of our most-requested services and a cornerstone of our restorative dentistry approach. Dr. Reed graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in 2010 and has spent over 15 years placing crowns for patients across a wide range of clinical situations. Whether you are dealing with a cracked tooth, significant decay, or a tooth that has been weakened by a root canal, we will find the right restoration for you.

How CEREC Same-Day Crown Technology Works

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. The system uses CAD/CAM technology to design, mill, and place a permanent ceramic crown in one appointment, eliminating the need for temporary crowns, second visits, and off-site lab fabrication. Our in-office dental technology makes the entire process faster and more comfortable than traditional crown procedures.

The process starts with a 3D digital scan of your tooth that replaces the traditional impression tray entirely. Dr. Reed uses that scan to design your crown on-screen, customizing the shape and shade to match your surrounding teeth. The design is then sent to our in-office milling unit, which carves the crown from a solid block of high-quality dental ceramic in about 15 to 30 minutes. Once it is milled and polished, Dr. Reed bonds it permanently into place and checks your bite. A 2023 systematic review published through the National Institutes of Health confirmed that CAD/CAM ceramic restorations are a clinically sound alternative to conventionally manufactured crowns, with favorable biological and esthetic outcomes. You leave the same day with a finished, fully functional restoration.

When a Traditional Crown Is the Right Choice

CEREC same-day crowns work well for the vast majority of cases, but some situations call for a lab-fabricated crown instead. Complex bite situations, very large restorations, or unique material requirements may be better served by a crown crafted off-site by a dental laboratory. In those cases, a temporary crown protects your tooth between appointments while the permanent restoration is fabricated to exact specifications. Dr. Reed will evaluate your tooth at your consultation and give you a clear recommendation on which approach is right for your situation.

Common Reasons Patients Need a Dental Crown

Dental crowns address a wide range of clinical situations where a tooth has been compromised beyond what a filling can repair. Dr. Reed places crowns for patients dealing with all of the following:

  • Cracked or fractured teeth that are painful under pressure or at risk of breaking further
  • Severe decay that has destroyed too much of the natural tooth structure for a filling to hold
  • Teeth weakened by a root canal, which become brittle and need full coverage to prevent fracture
  • Worn-down teeth from grinding or acid erosion that have lost significant height or strength
  • Broken or chipped teeth that cannot be restored with bonding alone
  • Dental implants, where a crown forms the visible, functional tooth above the implant post

If you are not sure whether your tooth needs a crown, an exam with Dr. Reed will give you a clear answer. In some cases, a dental implant crowned with a ceramic restoration may be the better long-term solution when the natural tooth cannot be saved.

How to Care for Your Dental Crown

With the right care, a dental crown can last 10 to 15 years or longer. Brushing twice daily, flossing around the crown margin, and keeping up with routine preventative care visits allow us to monitor your crown and catch any issues early. Avoid chewing on ice or very hard foods, and if you grind your teeth at night, a nightguard can protect the restoration from unnecessary stress. If a crown ever feels loose, uncomfortable, or visibly cracked, contact us right away. Small issues caught early are almost always easier and less expensive to address than problems that have been left to develop.

If you are dealing with a dental problem that cannot wait, our emergency dentistry services are available for patients who need prompt care. A broken or severely painful tooth should be seen as soon as possible, and same-day CEREC technology means we can often complete your crown that same appointment.
